I started early and washed my car again, with foam and water only, to remove any dust that had accumulated on the paint while I waited for a few replacement products to arrive, after I had two different orders arrive with leaking bottles. I focused on cleaning the wheel wells thoroughly, and also agitated the soft top with a brush to see if it was possible to remove any more of the black marks caused by the top mechanism. Unfortunately, it looks like those are permanent. Next I cleaned the engine, you can find a step by step walkthrough of the engine cleaning process on 986forum here. Once the engine was clean, I removed the seats and vacuumed all of the carpet. I originally planned to steam clean the carpet but, my steamer was not working, so I conditioned the carpet using carpet cleaner and and a scrub brush. Once the carpet dried I applied 303 Stain Guard to provide some additional protection, however while 16 oz was almost enough, I ran out before I could spray the passenger side floor, but I did cover the floor mat.
Next I removed the cabin engine access panel, which turned into a complete disaster. The bolts came off perfectly, however, there are two nuts just above the center console, and one of the nuts fell between the back of the center console and the carpet. Ultimately, I had to remove all of the screws that secure the center console, to reach it. Next time I will put some tape down to make sure nothing can fall down there. I then removed the drive belt and checked all of the pulleys, everything spins perfectly with no play or other issues, so I reinstalled the belt. Tomorrow I will wrap up the interior.
